NEW FAMILY information
Getting Started:
The Essentials
1. Troop Meetings
Meetings are held at St. Genevieve Parish Community Center in Centerville (link to address) on Thursday nights from 7:00 – 8:30 PM (except for the first Thursday of the month). Optional pre-activities begin at 6:45 PM.
Scouts should always wear their Class A uniform (unless a Class B uniform is requested) and bring their Scout Handbook and a pen or pencil.
2. Communications & Troop Calendar
Email is the main form of communication for our troop and both parents and Scouts are encouraged to sign up for the Troop emails. We also use Scoutbook, a free tool offered by BSA for advancement, record keeping, reporting and event RSVPs with a complete calendar of our meetings and events. You can also synchronize your calendar app to our troop’s calendar.
Actions:
-
Sign up for the troop email distribution list by contacting Scoutmaster Brian Peterson
-
Set up an adult and youth Scoutbook account at scoutbook.scouting.org. Scouts cannot get an account until their parent invites them to join. This Scoutbook quick start guide will help guide you through the process.
-
Synchronize your calendar app to Scoutbook.com by copying and pasting this URL to your calendar app: https://api.scouting.org/advancements/events/calendar/75375
3. Uniforms & Handbook
We have two different types of uniforms.
Class A Uniform is the official BSA dress uniform which should be worn to most Troop Meetings and all ceremonies.

Class B Uniform is a t-shirt or hooded sweatshirt with a logo selected by our Scouts that is worn for informal activities.
Actions:
-
Purchase a tan Class A Uniform Shirt (other items like pants, belts etc. are optional).
-
Purchase and apply the following patches to the Class A Uniform shirt:
-
World Crest Patch
-
Ring Patch (surrounds World Crest Patch)
-
Northern Star Council Patch
-

These items can be purchased at the Scout Shop in Mounds View (https://goo.gl/maps/PHjZo978JxPmtGbr6) or online at www.scoutshop.org.

-
Purchase a Class B Uniform T-Shirt and/or Hooded Sweatshirt by contacting Marianne Knutson, New Member Coordinator.

As a welcome gift, the following items will be purchased by the Troop and presented to the Scout at crossover or at one of their first meetings.
-
Scout Handbook and Cover
-
Troop Number Patch
-
Olive Green Shoulder Epaulets
-
Neckerchief
-
Neckerchief slide (this will be presented when the Scout earns the rank of Scout)
4. Scout Dues, Scout Accounts, & Fundraising
The cost to join Scouting is $205 per year.
Troop 136 does not have a set annual amount for dues. We have a pay by event philosophy so Scouts only pay for the activities they participate in.

Note: Financial Aid is available from Northern Star Council, at this URL: https://www.goscouting.org/financial-assistance. If you wish to request financial assistance, please complete this request BEFORE the registration applications below.

During the year, we offer 2 repeat fundraisers for Scouts to earn money for themselves and for the Troop:

-
Fall - Wreath Sales & Popcorn
-
Spring - Flower Sales

Some of the funds raised go to the Troop general fund and some will go to your Scout's "Scout Account". These funds can use towards Scout activities, camping, and gear.
